at the start of internship, there were consultants who could block a consult or a study or a procedure that i knew my patient needed. try it now, my friend, try it now. i have become the immovable object. i will stand there, stone-faced, and watch you cave in. he needs this study. he needs it now. you know it, i know it, everybody knows it. sign the form, my eyes will say, my body will say. your pen will be in your hand. your eyes will say it's just easier to do the study than to sit here while i hover over you knowing.

and i remember those spooky interns, the ones who would get that faraway look in their eye while trying not to answer the question what will internship do to me? it will make you ruthless, it will make you ruthless.
